The longest drive ever

I am a little annoyed with mum and dad. At 10am on the 29th July my mum and dad said “car”. I thought it was a lovely little journey but no … I was in there for 5 hours, driving south and went on a busy road around a city called London. At first it was lovely. I saw a few buses. But then, it got annoying… especially when there was a lot of traffic.

Finally we made it to a place called ‘New Haven ferry port’. Finally, I thought I could have a long walk but no… my mum picked me up and raced me back to my car seat. I was very upset but I didn’t realise that we were only driving into a big metal thing called a ferry. Soon I found myself on deck 6 with loads of room to run and climb. The crossing was okay. I had chips to eat and I occasionally went outside for a little look at the sea. I wanted to touch the water but mum said no. Dad wasn’t feeling well … not sure why.

We arrived at some place called France. I stared out of the window and was really shocked. My dad was driving on the wrong side of the road and, any minute, I thought that we would crash! But lucky, everyone was on the wrong side.

We got to our hotel which looked a little dodgy as it had metal shutters over the windows. I was so tired that I didn’t care and just went to sleep on mum and dad’s double bed.

DAY TWO

Somewhere new. I was excited so I woke mum and dad up at 7am … which I think they were very happy about. Grandad and grandma weren’t ready therefore mum, dad and I went for an exciting walk… to a garden centre!!!! It was really boarding. We then went back to the hotel and met Grandma and grandad at the car.

After yesterday I wasn’t sure about the car. We had another long drive but luckily there was a break in the middle where I got some food and a play on the playground. Finally we made it to a beach. I spent hours playing in the Sand on the beach. It was a lovely hot day and the sea was very blue. I was with mum. Dad went into a museum about the June 1944 landings here at Juno beach where the sacrifice of the Canadian army, as they fought for European freedom from oppression, was displayed in a thought provoking and sensitive way … or something like that. I decided that I was too young to understand.

After the beach we drove around, and around, and around town. I saw the same road six times and I was getting dizzy. Finally we found parking… but no one got out. We then left … adults are weird sometimes.we then headed to a leclerc; a big supermarket. We raced around it as, apparently, it was closing soon. I was in my pushchair holding onto my hat and eating a banana!

Finally we made it to our holiday location. A big house with a pool. Uncle James and Aunty Rebecca and family, Uncle Chris and Aunty Caroline and family were already there! I spent the evening playing with stones and the whole family. It was great!
