Heading home

It was like yesterday 'take two'. We both watched 'Bob and Builder' in the morning. We both had a nap in the morning... and we drove off at 2:45pm. There were a few differences. During our naps, mum and dad went off for a walk around the campsite. Mum and Dad tried that with Haruki yesterday but he wasn't interested. Apparently they walked all around and saw the restaurant.

Also when we left today, sadly it was for the last time on this holiday. We all said goodbye to grandma and grandad - who were staying another night - and we went off into the distance. As we had both had a sleep earlier, we were awake in the car. We realised that dad was trying a new way home. It was quite a nice way however, every road around here seemed to come with a stunning view.

We stopped briefly in Wisbech for mum to give Haruki the iPad so he wouldn't pull dad's belt ... again. We made it home just as it got dark around 6:15pm. Mum and dad unpacked quickly before letting us out of the car. Mum and Dad also turned the heating on in the house; a first for our new house.

So this was the end of another holiday for Haruki and, Yuto's first. We both loved it a lot and cannot wait until the next one!

Quick stop at Felbrigg

We overheard our parents say that, with visiting the zoo yesterday, they had done everything they wanted to do on this holiday however, grandad and grandma both said a short trip to Felbrigg might be nice. There was no rush however, we both got to watch a billion episodes of 'Bob the Builder' even before lunch. We then both had a nap ... which meant that the adults watched a film called 'Bourne Ultimatum' which they enjoyed. We eventually left around 2:30pm.

We didn't go straight to Felbrigg. First of all we went back to the Zoo. Haruki wasn't sure why at first however, when dad came back from the Zoo, he was holding Haruki's 'emergency vehicle' book. Haruki had wondered where that had got to all evening.

Once at Felbrigg we met up with grandma and grandpa. We went around the walled garden which was stunning. Afterwards dad wanted a coffee, and everyone else shared two ice creams. After this we decided to head back home. We had been at Felbrigg for 2 hours and, even though it might seem like a wasted day. Everyone was happy with the relaxing day we had just witnessed.

On the way back we stopped at Morrisons for dinner before getting back to the caravan for pizza and 'Bourne Supermacy'.

It had been a lovely, relaxing day, holidays are designed for. I think my dad was happy as he finished his magazine too!

South America

Mum made sure that we were up a good time. Again we went off without the grandparents. We didn’t go far. We ended up at a zoo. Haruki had been to a zoo before but Yuto hadn’t. This zoo was a south American zoo. We paid £44 and went in. All the animals were from South America. We saw a lot of birds, alligators, spiders, monkeys, Jaguars and Haruki’s favourite animal… a south American rabbit. But mum and dad’s favourite animals were the ants … as they travelled around some tubes collecting food. Mum wanted to show us elephants, giraffes and pandas but dad had to remind her where South America was. Halfway around grandma and grandad turned up and we completed the zoo together.

Haruki finished the day with some time on Softplay. Mum and dad bought Yuto a toy monkey as his first holiday present ever. Haruki had a police car the day before.

As we left the zoo, the staff closed the gate behind us … which seemed rude. We drove to Cromer to see the sea and have fish and chips for dinner. It was our second time and was just as lovely as the first time.

We got back to the caravan around 7pm and watched a film before sleeping.

Forest parks and white hot chocolate

We had forgotten how long it took grandma and grandad to get ready in the morning. Lucky mum and dad took us out before the grandparents were ready.

Today we went to Holt country park and the weather was wonderful. Once arrived it was lunch therefore we ate sandwiches in the car. Once done grandma and grandad turned up. We went for a lovely short walk in the trees before we went to a playground. Haruki had fun and Yuto watched. Grandma and grandad went to the cafe.

We left the country park for a short drive to Holt. We had a quick Look around the shops before ending up in Byfords. Dad really wanted to go here for a white hot chocolate and it did not disappoint. Dad said that it was stunning and will buy the powder later.

As soon as we returned to the caravan grandma and dad went straight back out to pick up a Thai takeaway. All adults said it tasted lovely… but the Bangkok chicken was a little spicy. It only cost £50 for 4 adults … and we had leftovers!

The day was completed by watching a Roman Holiday… but by this time Yuto and Haruki were asleep.

New villages, big house and family

We were all ready to go out earlier than previous days though we were not going far. Both of us took our usual positions in the back of mum and dad’s car. We chatted along the way.

We arrived at a beautiful little village called Aylsham. It mustn’t have been that big as, though Haruki went in his pushchair, Yuto was put in his carrier. The village was very pretty though, didn’t take long to walk around. The weather had improved dramatically.

We bought two delicious cakes which we took to Blickling hall to eat.

We didn’t go into the hall as there were steps. We spent the afternoon in Bilcklings beautiful gardens. This time Yuto was in a pushchair and Haruki either walked or went on his buggy board.

We wanted to do a walk around the lake however, we had gone the wrong way therefore we went around the beautiful gardens. This was lucky as Haruki found a mushroom drum set which he loved.

We all had a lovely time in the gardens. Before leaving mum bought some items from the shop. A calendar and a National Trust passport for Yuto.

We had just got back to the caravan when there was a nice surprise. Grandma and grandad had turned up. Both didn’t say a lot. Grandad went to bed and grandma had a bad tooth. Still it was nice them being there.

Haircuts in sherringham

Today we had to be out at a certain time. It wasn’t much of a hardship; 12pm dad had to be in Sherringham for a haircut. We arrived at about 11:15am. Dad helped build the pushchairs and took us to a park … where he abandoned us to get the hair on his head reduced. Haruki enjoyed playing and Yuto had a sleep.

After an hour dad came back with a lot less hair. Got his monies worth I’d say. We all then went around the shops and sat looking at the sea eating ice cream. Before getting back to the car and starting that joyous of activities (dismantling the pushchairs) dad stopped for a cake, a football, shortbread and to buy a new 2025 work diary. Exciting times!

After 10 minutes we had arrived at Sherringham Park. I think dad was really enjoying taking the pushchairs out the boot and putting them back in again… as he was do it so often. He seemed to be using some words I don’t yet understand to empathise his enjoyment. After lunch we went for a walk through Sherringham park to a big Manor House and back. The trees were full of autumn colour and we both loved looking around. Haruki walked and ran quite a bit … which he enjoyed. On the way back, we seemed to be racing a mobility scooter. They stopped a couple of times… and so did we so Haruki could pick up his leaf. We won in the end.

Today had actually been quite a long day. After an interesting meal of sausages, sweetcorn and lettuce Haruki and Yuto went to sleep, leaving mum and dad time to enjoy the film ‘What we did on our holiday’.

Cromer

As yesterday was so traumatic for all of us, we decided to have a lazy first day. Our idea of a lazy day and our parents idea differs some. We let them sleep in until 7:15am.

The theme of it taking forever to get ready remained and we were all finally in the car just before midday. The drive wasn’t long as we were just heading to Cromer. It was raining and our parents had to erect two pushchairs before putting us in. Haruki decided to explain all that Cromer had to offer to Yuto. Not sure if Yuto was that impressed as he fell asleep.

We made it to Mary Jane’s fish and chip shop… a tradition. Mum and dad had fish and chips whereas Haruki had sausage and chips. We all ate all … mum particularly enjoyed her fish and chips as it had been a while.

It was still raining as we walked around the rest of Cromer. Mum and dad dived into a few of the shops but bought very little. Finally, once back at the car, dad had to repack the boot with two wet pushchairs.

Yuto was awake when we got back to the caravan. Reading the above you might think that it didn’t take long to complete today’s activities… and you would be right. 3 hours later we were back at the caravan. Mum and dad watched two films, Haruki practiced his climbing skills and Yuto just smiled until it was bed time.

And we are off … eventually

(Haruki) Now that I have started school, I have a pretty good idea when holidays might begin. Yesterday, as I left school my teacher said “see you in a week after the holidays “. I am enjoying school … but holidays are ace too (I learnt the word ‘ace’ at school), so I was very excited.

Things always change don’t they. This is my first holiday whilst at school. Also, this is my first holiday having a co-writer. Yuto, my baby brother, was born in May. We get on all right. Seem to like the same TV programmes.

********

(Haruki and Yuto) On Saturday we seemed to all wake up together. It was still early so we had a lazy breakfast. Dad then started to pack the car. This seemed to take all day! Both Yuto and Haruki wondered what on earth dad was doing. Once outside the car looked different. There was a black box on top of the car. We were told that it was a rooftop box. we set off around midday… 5 hours after we had woken up or, to put it another way, enough time to get to the caravan in Norfolk and back.

We stopped precisely 25 miles into the journey as the rooftop box instructions said that dad should tighten up the bars. We didn’t stop again until we reached Kings Lynn. The way we went was new to all and we all enjoyed the autumn colours.

We had both fallen asleep by the time we got to Kings Lynn. Mum and dad therefore had a cheeky KFC and dad bought a magazine from Tesco. As we awoke we were off … but not to the caravan as I had thought. After 20 minutes we pulled up into a lovely royal woodland car park. Though sadly Sandringham house and gardens were closed, we did have a lovely walk through the autumn woodland. It was stunning and all wanted to go back. Haruki got to play on an ace playground.

We made one final stop at Morrisons where we filled the car totally before getting to the caravan. Mum held three bags of shopping! Dad emptied the car and mum put everything away. We had a quick tea but it was already about 9ish. What a day! All were tired so off we went to sleep. It’s nice to be back though, said Haruki, there is a lot to show Yuto.

Easter Hols in Whitby

Friday 27th March 2026 - Dad usually finished work at 5pm… not 1pm. Something was a foot! What’s more, bags were packed and the roof top box...
