The motorway hotel was lovely. I really enjoyed climbing their furniture. Because of this both mum and dad seemed to get ready really quickly. The road leaving the services was really bumpy but soon we were on our way. The weather was amazing.
After stopping at a supermarket and getting petrol we boarded the ferry at Arrodossa. I thought I’d be helpful and go to the toilet just before we drove onto the ferry. This made it difficult for both my mum and dad to carry me, and my stuff, up the stairs and onto the ferry… which I think they both enjoyed.
The journey across was very calm. The sun was shining. We soon left the ferry and I was onto my first Scottish island. The isle of Arran is pretty small. So much so it only took us 10 mins to get to our hotel.
Something was wrong. I looked out the car window and saw no other cars. My dad went in to the hotel to investigate. He came out white. We were in the right place and our room was ready early. This would have been good news if it wasn’t for the reason. My dad told my mum that the reason it was so quiet here is that all ferries had been cancelled over the last two days. Today was the first day of ferries… the owner said we were lucky but, looking at my dad he didn’t look like we were lucky. I think he was worrying about leaving the island. In fact, I know he was worried because he kept checking the BBC weather app every 35 seconds.
There was nothing we could do. We were here now so we headed into the local town of Lamlash for a walk, a small bit of shopping and a nice meal consisting of a hunter’s burger and a pepperoni burger. It was nice but a dog called rocket kept bothering me. Dad checked the weather again.
As today seemed the best day for weather, we decided to make the most of it. We therefore drove around the southern part of the island. Arran really is beautiful. Rugged coastline, a couple of sandy beaches and inner mountains. It only took an hour to cover the southern part of the island with photo stops. We got back to the hotel at 6:15pm.
We used the communal kitchen that evening, eating snacks, playing games and of course climbing. Dad checked the weather again.
We went to sleep at 8:30pm however I wasn’t tired. It’s a holiday therefore I went to sleep at midnight. Mum and dad were really happy.
Toodle pip!
