We had a nice late start to the day. Dad had not have the best night. He started the night on the 'put up bed' ... then tried the sofa and finished off on the bottom bunk of a set of bunkbeds. Though it was the most comfortable, watching dad get in, and out, of the bed was a little entertaining. We had a lovely breakfast and got ready slowly.
We didn't take the car! This suprised both of us. Intregued; we followed mum and dad to a walking path which started at the side of Ruswarp train station. The weather was excellent and we enjoyed the walk which included fields, high hill sides, the River Esk and going under a beautiful brick bridge. Just then a steam train came whilstling past ... just to complete the scene.
After 40 minutes we found ourselves in a huge long stay carpark full of cars. Eventually we found out where we were. It was a place called 'Whitby'. So far, the only two things we were certain of was that; Whitby was near the sea (good point) and, it was packed full of people (not so good). We found out later that apparently, it was because it was 'Easter weekend' or something like that.
It was difficult for us to walk along the coastal edge of Whitby however, we did manage it! It was so busy that we hardly stopped. Haruki got a red crab ... but Yuto didn't get anything (which he didn't mind). We stopped for our first fish and chips from a place called 'The Magpie'. Apparently this fish and chip shop was famous therefore, dad booked a table for us, and grandma and grandad, for later in the week. Speaking of Grandma and Grandad. They were suppose to meet us in the centre of Whitby however, with so many people and poor phone signal it was impossible to communicate. Only when we had walked high up the northern side of Whitby and visited Botham's bakery did we get to chat with grandma and discover that they were near the train station. We walked down to meet them but, only after dad had been in a shop where the owner said they accepted either cash or cheque.
Cheque! Dad kept saying this word with absolute suprise. Haruki and Yuto had no idea what a cheque was but, it was causing my dad a lot of confusion. The confusion only broke when we saw grandma and grandad. Grandma was annoyed that she had missed fish and chips at 'The Magpie' so, her and grandad went for fish and chips at another place whereas dad and mum decided to start a fight between two workers at Boots (about a 'parent club' and how to be a member apparently).
With lunch done, it was do busy that we decided to head home. Grandma went off first, back to something called a 'park and ride' and brought the car back to the train station in Whitby for grandad. Grandad, grandma, mum and Haruki got in the car whereas Yuto and dad walked back.
Dad and Yuto had a lovely walk and once back at the flat, we had dinner, watched a film and went to sleep.
